Search the Internet for the term OpenOffice. Explain what OpenOffice is. How do users obtain it? How much does it cost? Given this information, why do you think companies use Microsoft Office rather than OpenOffice? Why do you?

open office is a free cross-platform office application suite available for a number of different computer operating systems. It supports the ISO standard OpenDocument Format (ODF) for data interchange as its default file format, as well as Microsoft Office '97–2003 formats, Microsoft Office 2007 format (ability to "open" documents in version 3), among others.
therefore i wood use open office because it can open things that microsoft cant open . n i think its free .

"OpenOffice is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose." (ripped straight from openoffice.org)

It is free.

I think most people use Microsoft Office because they're in the Microsoft Office rut, people are resistant to change. Also, something being free is rarely used as widely as something with a rather high price-tag on it, go figure huh?

Open office is another software as Microsoft Office. It supports all the diffrent types of software suites, meaning that it can read from them and you can also save your work on Open Office and use it on anthoer type of software. Open Office offers just about the same amount of stuff as Microsoft Office does. You can download it from their webiste free of charge and install it on as many computers as you would like. It can be used for personnal, education, commercial, and public admistration.
And I think that why don't people use this instead of paying high dollar software when you get this for free! I would have to agree with paul though, a lot of people would look at it being free and not thinking that it is worth it. You know most of the time when your paying for something its what you already know has, thats why your spending your hard earned money on it right?

I've used OpenOffice and I've used Microsoft's suite. While I appreciate that OpenOffice is free and open source and normally I use things of that sort (GIMP, for instance, which is a better version of photoshop), I've had some compatibility issues using documents created with it.

I went ahead and got Office 2003 and I really haven't looked back.

I agree that Microsoft's products benefit from market saturation. People use them and think of them as the only product with no alternative. I think if OpenOffice got more support it would fare better with compatibility. Increasing user base would also improve the product as the developers would have more feedback.

Open Office is a an office application comparable to Microsoft office. Benefits of open office are 1. its free, 2. it is compatible with other office programs, 3. works with different types of operating systems, and 4. can be downloaded from the internet. People are already used to the Microsoft Office program and it is hard to change, just as people dont like to change to a mac. Plus it makes people reluctant to buy because it is free. Why would it be free? people tend to ask.

OpenOffice is an open-source office software suite. It is completely free and can be downloaded from the site. It can be used as an alternative to Microsoft Office, but I think that so many people are already familiar with Microsoft Office that they wouldn't want to change and use something different.

Open Office is basically like microsoft office only free and in a lot of peoples opinions, better. I think people use it for basically the reason that paul said, they dont always like change; and think that if your paying for it, then it must be better.
